The Skills Necessary To Make It Big In Application Development For Mobile Platforms

By Mario Callingan

Being successful in application development for mobile platforms will require you to be in possession of two skills which are considered to be essential. Whether you are developing the applications with the intention of selling them directly through your own 'holding's company, or you are seeking a conventional mobile applications development job, these are two types of skills you must have.

First of all, in order to be successful in developing mobile applications, you must have object-oriented programming skills. Coding of many of the mobile applications that are being developed these days is done in the language known as Java. This is, for the most part, an object oriented programming language. Of course, before you can make use of Java and utilize its full potential, it is important that you fully understand the whole concept of object oriented programming. We do, of course, have people who get introduced to object oriented programming through Java.

But learning things in that manner is not without its hurts and pains. At the end of the day, there is still a need to master object oriented programming concepts in order to succeed in developing mobile applications. Java is not the only programming language that is being currently used by developers in creating mobile applications. But these other languages still fall under the category of object oriented programming languages and thus would require this type of programming skill to be possessed by the developer himself.

The second type of basic essential skills you must have, in order to succeed in application development for mobile platforms is that of solid graphic design skills. An attractive front-end interface is also important for mobile applications. Do not think that coding is the end-all and be-all. For you to do this, you need to have good graphic design skills. It is not required that you be a graphic design artist. Having some knowledge about the subject would be more than enough. If you just have the coding skills in an object oriented programming language, but you don't have graphic design skills, you won't have the ability to come up with complete mobile apps.

The foundations of application development could be linked tightly to object oriented programming skills and graphic design skills. Having both would mean you'd have greater chances of successfully developing mobile applications. There are other skills that one needs, over and above the basic, essential object-oriented programming skills and the graphic design skills. Once you've developed the finished product - the mobile application - you would want people to buy the app. In order to do that, you must make use of whatever marketing skills you have. If you do not have an idea what app to develop, you could start by looking at your target market and figuring out what they need or want. Market data gathering skills would come in handy at this point. Granted, these are not considered as core technical skills that developers deem important when it comes to mobile application development. The core technical skills needed for the actual development of the mobile applications revolve around the areas of graphic design of the application's interfaces and coding. If you want to develop applications for mobile platforms - and be a success at it - you must make sure you have the object oriented programming skills and graphic design skills.
